BISHOP |
Byrum |
Not sure who his parents were.
Byrum was born in Kentucky and was apparently married twice. In the 1850
census he is in Henry County, Kentucky with wife Elizabeth , who was born
about 1818 in Kentucky, and sons John, Patrick and Andrew`who were all born in
Kentucky. Note that Patrick is buried in this cemetery and John and Andrew
are buried at New Maysville. In the 1860 census Byrum is in JacksonTwp,
Putnam County, with wife America, born about 1831 in Kentucky. John, Patrick
and Andrew are also in this household, but Elizabeth is not. Note that
America is only eight years older than the eldest son John, so she is likely
to be Byrum's second wife. |

Marmaduke |
This stone is very hard to read.
From what we can read and from various historical records, we feel this is
Marmaduke H. Darnall, son of William G. and Emelia Darnall who are buried
just south of this stone. Military records indicate Marmaduke H. Darnall
served in the civil war in Co I 11th Ind Inf as a Sgt and in Co B 43rd Ind
Inf, in as 2nd Lt and out as Captain. Not sure if this is the same person who
served in two divisions or if there were two Marmaduke H. Darnall's. Co I
11th Ind Inf was organized at Indianapolis, Ind., April 21-25, 1861 and was
mustered out August 2, 1861. Marmaduke H. Darnall enlisted as a Lieutenant
2nd Class on 10 September 1861, residence listed as Bainbridge, Indiana. He
was commissioned in Co B 43rd Indiana Infantry Regiment on 10 September 1861.
Promoted to Full Lieutenant 1st Class on 07 May 1862 effective 07 May 1862.
Promoted to Full Captain on 13 May 1862 effective 13 May 1862. Died of wounds
on 30 April 1864, probably from engagement at Jenkin's Ferry, Saline River,
Grant County, Arkansas. |

This is probably the Alexander
Dunnington who was the father of Mary Elizabeth (Dunnington) Darnall, who is
buried in this cemetery. If so, he was believed to have married three times.
1st to Louisa Sellers 3 Aug 1830 in Kentucky, then 2nd to Sally Rankin 2 Apr
1840 in Putnam County and finally 3rd Nancy Ratliff about 1855. He was
believed to have had 3 or 4 children by all three wives. Now remember that we
are talking almost 200 years ago, so
not all research information is 100% reliable. |

JENT |
Louisa E. |
This might be the sister of
Aaron Jent. I can find no record that Aaron Jent ever married and according
to census records, the Jent family had a daughter named Louisa that was about
this age. Further, Louisa is listed in the 1930 census in the Town of Bainbridge
as being single, where she is living with her niece Carrie Coverdale, age 64.
I am pretty confident that this Louisa Jent is Aaron Jent's sister. |

WINGATE |
Smith |
Not sure who he is. He is listed
in the 1860 census in Monroe Twp. In the household of John Wingate, who was
77 and born in Delaware. Also listed in that census are Baly Wingate, a 72
year old female born in Virginia, Mary Wingate age 40 born in Kentucky and
Smith Wingate age 36 born in Kentucky. Mary was probably Smith Wingate's wife
and John was probably his father, grandfather or uncle. More than likely Baly
was really Polly, which would more than likely make Smith Wingate the son of
the John and Polly Wingate buried here, and the brother of Joseph C. Wingate,
also buried here. |

Illegible |
|
This
is probably John O'Neal. This stone is so badly deteriorated, it is basically
illegible. Cemetery Association records indicate a J. O'Neal purchased this
plot. According to census records, there is a John O'Neal residing in
Greencastle in 1910, 1920 and 1930 with wife Ella. This John O'Neal married
Ella Rogers 1 Sept 1897 in Putnam County. Based on his age in the census
records, this John O'Neal was born about 1874. We could find no other
information on any other O'Neal's. |
