Notes on the Sutherlin Cemetery
The first burial in the old part of the Sutherlin Cemetery was of Polly Sutherlin in 1831, followed closely by Mary Sutherlin and Fendal Sutherlin, both in 1834.  These graves are in the northwest corner of the old section.
The earliest birth date of individuals buried in the Sutherln Cemetery was of Mary Sutherlin, born 1746, followed by husband and wife Fendal and Lydia Sutherlin in 1767 and 1774, respectively.  These graves are also in the northwest corner of the old section.
The latest burial in the old part of the Sutherlin Cemetery was of Verna Sutherlin in 1983. Her stone is in the southwest corner of the old section. She is buried  back here because her husband, Piercy C. Sutherlin, had died way back in 1928. Verna lived to be 90.
The first burial in the new section was of Lawrence Sutherlin in 1929.
The most recent burial was of Harold Bowman in 1998.
There are many stones in the new section with no death dates. These are usually individuals who are still living, but whose spouse has passed on.  This Cemetery will be used for burials for many years to come.
The 1966 Putnam County Sesqucentiennal also indates John M. Britton 1791-1851 is buried here. Also buried here are George Lookabill 1803 - 1881 and his wife Elizabeth Clodfelter 1810 - 1889, marked with field stones.
