The Poplar Spring Church stood on ground now the garden at the Albert Balch home, 1 mile north and ˝ mile east of Bainbridge, Indiana, on the west side of the road.
The records were transcribed from the original papers by Sam’l Lowry, (Pastor) October 1, 1832, and later transcribed into a permanent record book, by the same July 10, 1833. This book, yellow with age, is in the possession of Albert Balch, at the family home. It contains records of the business proceedings of the church and its successor the Bainbridge Church, throughout the years 1829-1863.
Sabbath August 16, 1829
The following persons, members of the Presbyterian Church, having their residence in this neighborhood, gave in their names, after preaching at the stand & declared it to be their desire to be formed into a church, to be known by the name of “The Poplar Spring Church.”

They were then solemly set apart by prayer & constituted into a church.
August 17.
The church met at Col. George Pearcy’s, where Elizabeth Pearcy, Nancy Shell, Joseph M. Hillis and Esther C. Hillis were received by examination & profession of their faith.
Lewis Shell was received as a member of the Washington Church Tennessee, and Thomas Scott, on profession of his faith.
George Pearcy was chosen Clerk for the church, and it was determined by vote to postpone the choice of Ruling Elders until a future time.

The church met at the Poplar Springs Schoolhouse, and after sermon by Rev. Jeremiah Hill, elected ruling elders.

April 8, 1843
By a previous notice given to the Church at Poplar Spring, a vote was taken whether or not they should request Presbytry to change the name from Poplar Spring to that of Bainbridge Church, it was unamimously agreed that they should, accordingly, the Presbytry (being in session at the new church at Bainbridge) was requested, to make the change in the name the change was therefore granted and a minute taken upon the Presbyterial Records, that the church hereafter should be known as the Bainbridge Church.
