tombstone. Research indicates there is a Smith Parker listed in the 1850
federal census who was 4 years old in the home of Thomas and Lois Parker in
Greencastle township a little south of here. If this is the same Smith
Parker, that would make his birthdate about 1846. Further research indicates
that Smith Parker enlisted in Co B 43rd Ind Inf as a private 10 Sept 1861.
Civil War Pension records indicate that Rachel Parker 9 Nov 1914 (dates are
hard to read). This application also indicates that Smith Parker filed for a
pension as an invalid. Again the dates are difficult to read, may have been
25 May 1895. Marriage records indicate that Smith Parker married Rachel
Snider 25 Oct 1866 in Putnam County. Rachel was the daughter of Jacob and
Elizabeth Snider, who are buried in this cemetery. Not sure where Rachel is
buried. Death records indicate that Smith Parker died in Greencastle Twp 2
Oct 1914 at the age of 69. This would indicate he was born about 1845, which
is consistent with the census noted above. |
