Legend to Map of Gillen Cemetery Before Restoration
Base of monolith of Willis Y and Malinda Gillen. Base leaning about 10 degrees to the east. The monolith appears to have fallen off its base due to the base leaning. The monolith itself is tall, making it easy to fall over unless the base is kept almost perfectly level. Middle piece reads "GILLEN"
Monolith of Willis Y. and Malinda Gillen. The monolith fell off the base to the east. Dimensions are 12 inches across at the bottom, 8 inches across at the top and 59 inches tall.

Tablet stone for Malinda Gillen. This tablet stone is 17 inches wide by 2 inches deep by 32 inches tall. It has been broken and was found stuck in the ground leaning against its slotted base. The bottom piece was found in the ground behind the stone. The bottom piece is about ten inches tall. It appears possible that these two pieces can be repaired. The base is intact, except for the fact one side of the slot is missing. It might be possible to reconstruct the base in a suitable manner with concrete. If not, a new base will need to be made. The base was in the ground about a foot and a half before being dug up. The stone is in good condition and very legible due to the fact most of the inscription has been underground for many years.
Footstone W. Y. G.

Footstone or small tombstone. No inscription can be found. Measures 6 x 2 x 17 inches.

Tablet stone for John D. Gillen, son of W. Y. & M. Gillen, presumed to be Willis Y. and Malinda Gillen. This stone is 14 inches wide by 2 inches deep by 30 inches tall. It was found face up, but was covered with an inch or two of dirt. The inscription is only moderately eroded. This stone was found to be legible after it was cleaned. This stone should be reset in a new slotted base. It might also be acceptable to insert the stone into the ground without the aid of a new slotted base. It is tall enough to do so, but the inscription would be only a few inches above the ground.
Tablet stone for Infant Son of C. & R. E. Gillen (died 1865). Presumed to be son of Columbus and Rachel E. (Edwards) Gillen. This stone is 8 inches wide by 2 inches deep by 19 inches tall. It appears this stone has been broken at the bottom, but we could not find the bottom piece. It was found face up, and consequently, the inscription is eroded. We were able to obtain a reading after cleaning the stone. This stone should be reset in a new slotted base.
Footstone or small tombstone. No inscription can be found.

Tablet stone for Mary J. Gillen, daughter of W. Y. & M. Gillen, presumed to be Willis Y. and Malinda Gillen. This stone is 10 inches wide by 2 inches deep by 25 inches tall. It was found face up, and consequently, the inscription is eroded. We were able to obtain a reading after cleaning the stone. This stone should be reset in a new slotted base.
Footstone I. G. presumably a footstone to one of the infants Gillen.
Footstone W. Y. G.  Note there are two separate and distinct footstones in this cemetery with the inscription W. Y. G.
Tablet stone for Infant Daughter of C. & R. E. Gillen (died 1868). Presumed to be daughter of Columbus and Rachel E. (Edwards) Gillen. This stone is in two pieces and is broken across the date. The top piece, with most of the inscription measures 8 1/2 inches wide by 2 inches deep by 20 inches tall when the two pieces are laid together. It has a crock across the date about 9 inches from the bottom, right across the dates. It was found face up, and consequently, the inscription is eroded. We were able to obtain a reading after cleaning the stone. It appears this stone can be repaired at the break. This stone should be reset in a new slotted base after being repaired.
